Understanding Understanding: Video Research Project For this project, I worked with Mary Ciotta and John Howell to collect research and interviews illuminating misconceptions surrounding United States Geography. We evaluated our research carefully, using our work in CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research, and linked our findings to theories of understanding we learned about in CEP 800: Learning Psychology in School and Other Settings. STEAMLab Conference Presentation For this project, I worked with Jocelyn Paez to create and present a one-hour long interactive STEAM presentation, to share with a live audience at a local conference. We chose to lead a workshop around the topic of Growth Mindset and Grit in the STEAM classroom. Our session was well-attended and well-received, and we learned a lot about leading professional development, using our skills from CEP 815: Technology & Leadership. Exploring Key Topics in Educational Technology: Webinar Project For this project, I worked with Mary Ciotta and John Howell to delve into the topic of Encouraging Reluctant Teachers to Use Technology. We researched the topic, using our skills from CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research, and created engaging interview questions for our three experts: Heather Kellstrom (Next Gen Strategist, Saline Area Schools), Liz Kolb (Professor of Education Technology, University of Michigan), and Mike Bammer (CTE Instructor, Lapeer Intermediate School District). The resulting discussion was thoughtful, interesting, and informative. The experience was a powerful one in taking on a leadership role within an educational community. DreamIT: A Technology-Based Grant Proposal for Transformative Learning This project gave us the opportunity to propose a technology-based solution to a problem we see within our teaching context. I chose to address communication and creativity within my 4th grade Social Studies units. Click through the webpages below to view my proposal.
Final Reflection Paper Click below to link to my final reflection paper for all three courses: CEP 800, 815, and 822: Tech Tips
We each presented two helpful sites/apps, one per week, and I chose: www.animoto.com--a video slideshow presentation app www.playposit.com--a tool for flipping the classroom-create video lessons with stops for questions and answers Miscellaneous Assignments Graphing Survey Results Using Codap--For this assignment, we took a survey, then created a graph of two variables that interested us. I looked at Grade Level taught versus Time Available to Innovate. As expected, elementary teachers felt they had more time to innovate than secondary teachers. Demotivational Poster--For this assignment, we created a spoof on the motivational poster idea by poking fun at the theories of motivation we'd been studying in class. iImage Activity--The idea behind this assignment was to represent a big idea with a simple image. Willingham Text--We jigsawed the text When Can You Trust the Experts?, and Mary Ciotta, John Howell and I presented on chapters 2 & 7. View our PowToons presentation and "old school" white board presentation. Chapter 2 of Willingham Presentation |
