My DreamIT project would additionally address motivation, as the pedagogical approaches, connections to the real world, and opportunities for creative thinking would enhance students’ desires to achieve. These projects would also promote the idea of high quality work--the notion that the best work product is only achieved through multiple iterations. Instead of just one live presentation, students could record their green screen project as many times as they wanted. Drafts of the scripts could be edited and revised based on a rubric, and students could self- and peer-assess. Perhaps most importantly, there would be a tangible record of the green screen presentation that students could view, reflect on, and work to improve. Global competencies would be developed through the use of the communication technology, as students would be connecting with individuals in a professional manner to gain insight into other regions and time periods that differ from their own. They would have to learn the social and collaborative features involved with connecting globally. Finally, visual/media literacy skills would be augmented through these projects as well, as students would have to become a travel agent/advertiser, and critically think about what aspects would contribute to persuading their audience to travel to their region. They would have to analyze not only print text, but images and video/media sources, and critique their effectiveness.
